Preparing for the journey

The Old Man has arrived and our journey approaches - inertia requires us to go forward and seek the truth of The Rib, The Chopped Pork, the Drumstick, and the Hushpuppy. Our house (in VA) slumbers in anticipation [hopefully through the night] of this momentous occasion.

The Prius aches for the challenge.

Avis will ache when we return a car rented for a week with thousands of miles on it.

Our first day will find us hitting Bill Spoon's BBQ in Charlotte, NC and Melvin's in Charleston, SC. We shall begin our trip with the strangest of all flavors - the East Carolina rub and vinegar sauce. We will stay at the La Quinta Inn, arranged by one of our concierges for the trip: Hotwire.

I [chris] have burned stacks of CDs - if people are interested, perhaps we can compile a playlist. It will be long. And repetitive. And it will include showtunes- this is perhaps deadly for two twenty-soemthing men driving a Prius across the south. Much of the music will be mine [again, Chris, for those of you who suffer from some rare disease that causes you to forget the first part of paragraphs] largely due to the fact that Josh didn't realize that CD players don't play DVDs. Maybe he and McCain can "A Google" it to solve the problem.

We have packed only the essentials given that we will carry the weight of many livestock with us as we move:

  • Tennis Rackets
  • Camcorder
  • Digital Camera (2)
  • Laptop (2)
  • Headset for Skype
  • Playstation 2
  • Lo-Carb Energy Drinks
  • Atlas
  • Clothes

Only the essentials. Were it not for new Nazi luggage rules, I'm sure Josh would have packed his clubs and drug me [chris...who else] to a golf course.

More tomorrow.

I love you two so much and am SO proud you are doing this. Give all 4 of the southern lesbians my love, and know I'll be reading every day.

Hope you two are having a good time getting fat. That car's MPG will go down the more you eat so keep an eye on things. BBQ is good but don't forget dessert.

Ok so now that you two have officially eaten at least 2 of your 18+ meat meals you have to tell us about them :) Hopefully you have figured out modern technology and the Prius hasn't beaten you yet.

I think there is an error in the road map as I cannot see San Antonio and it seems that Houston, of all places, is a destination. What are the chances of an amendment to the itinerary? Our treat. The pork butts are bigger here in Texas (actually all butts are bigger here in Texas - a true testament to our love of barbeque). They are also better when they have been smoked at the curb in our friend Chad's driveway. Should we fire up the smoker?
